8th Annual Fishmas Eve Celebrations!
Welcome to our Fishmas page. A lot of people over the years have asked us where we came up with the name Fishmas. Fishmas stemmed from a family discussion. Mike started to really get into the whole fishing lifestyle. The beginning of fishing season took on an excitement all on it's own. While headed down to the marina one afternoon, the day before trophy season began, Mike and I were commenting on the fact that opening day was as exciting as Christmas! I can't remember if it was Mike and me who chimed up "It's Fishmas!"
Fishmas took on another life about 8 years ago. We had just gotten Trab On III and we didn't have the name on the boat. We had heard that a vessel without a name on it is unlucky so while Mike was out town on business, I had letters and a crab made up at a local shop. I asked my neighbor if he could put the letters on as a surprise to Mike when he came home. Mike was due back home Fishmas Eve. I made up invitations and handed them out to a few friends and we all met down at the boat. I asked Mike to meet us down at the boat and he got really nervous when he saw everyone standing at his boat. We had covered up the name with a towel. We handed out glasses and popped the champagne and lifted up the towel to show Mike what is officially "Trab On III"! After that night we decided that it would be a great tradition to continue.
Every year on the afternoon before trophy season (Fishmas Eve) our family invites out friends and fellow fishermen and make a toast to a prosperous and safe fishing season.
Twas the night before Fishmas and all down the piers,
Not a fishy was stirring, motionless with fears...
Happy Fishmas!!
